Apart from the faculties and students of Himalayan University, Dr. LijumNochi, a renowned professor at Rajiv Gandhi University, was also present at the symposium as the Key Note Speaker.
After the welcome address to the symposium by Dr. Vivek Mittal (Registrar of Himalayan University) and presentations by the students over the topic, Dr. LijumNocha delivered a highly constructive and inspiring lecture over the great importance of NITI Aayog in thriving Indian economy, suggested some prudent priorities of the Aayog, and envisaged and encouraged the industrial & economic development of the North East India. The critically important excerpts from his admirable lecture are provided in the last paragraph separately.
During the welcome address, Dr. Vivek Mittal informed that constituting the NITI Aayog (by repealing the Planning Commission which was instituted in 1950) is undoubtedly a significant evolutionary change from the past for ensuring Cooperative Federalism in the country. He said that the NITI Aayog serves as the essential platform for the Union Government to urge its various States for acting together in the national interest and prosperity. The participating students of Himalayan University discussed the innovative and laudable role of NITI Aayog as “think-tank” of the Central Government played in the past years in the areas ofNational Energy Policy, National Nutrition Strategy, National Medical Council Bill, Employment Generation, Growth of Farmers’ Income, and Promotion of Entrepreneurship through the Atal Incubation Center and Tinkering Labs.
During his excellent and encouraging speech at the symposium, Dr. LijumNochi suggested that the NITI Aayog should also look at the long-term problems of the country such as shortage of drinking water, reducing forests, insufficiency in agriculture, and so on. He further added that the NITI Aayog must work harmoniously with its two broad hubs of the ‘Team India Hub’ and the ‘Knowledge & Innovation Hub’, to be most fruitful to the nation. For the industrial, employment, and economic development in the North-East Region, he inspired the people of this region to avail the North East Industrial Development Scheme (NEIDS) of 2017, and the MSME Scheme. At the end of his speech, he congratulated Himalayan University for organizing symposium on such a significant topic, and hoped that the university will conduct such symposium on various important issues in future. At last, Mr. Ligo (HOD, the Department of Economics, whereunder the symposium was organized) conveyed gratitude to the key note speaker for his invaluable contribution, and delivered the Vote of Thanks to all participants.
